WITTENBERG'S ANTI-RACISIM STATEMENT is displayed on a bronze plaque that was formally dedicated during the Homecoming/Reunion celebration last weekend. The plaque is mounted on an exterior wall of the Benham-Pence Student Center near the site of the 1968 walk-out by CBS.

WITTENBERG AND KENYON COMPETE at the 2004 NCAC Field Hockey Tournament Finals at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, Edwards-Maurer Field.

WITTENBERG HOSTS THE 2004 NCAC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT Friday-Saturday, Nov. 5-6, HPER Center. The semi-finals begin at 5:30 p.m. today when Wittenberg takes on Denison University.

THE ANNUAL FALL DANCE CONCERT, presented by the Department of Theatre and Dance, continues through the weekend with performances at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 4-6, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, in Chakeres Memorial Theatre, 905 Woodlawn Ave. Tickets are $4.

• A WITTENBERG WELCOME TO DOUGLAS LEHMAN, who began his responsibilities as director of Thomas Library on Nov. 1. Lehman comes from the University of Vermont, where he served as director of instruction and information services at the Bailey/Howe Library.

“STYLE ON THE SLOPES,” the Wittenberg Guild's 49th Annual Scholarship Style Show, featuring slopeside and fall and winter fashions, begins at 10 a.m. with a social hour and silent basket auction, followed at 11:30 by the luncheon and style show in the Benham-Pence Student Center, Saturday, Nov. 6. Artist Stacey Vermilion produced the original painting that was used by the Wittenberg Guild for this year's style show promotional material.

• MUSIC AT WITTENBERG presents the Wittenberg University Symphonic Band, conducted by Tom Kennedy, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 100 Krieg Hall. The concert will celebrate the 150th birthday of John Philip Sousa with a variety of works, including two of his marches. In addition, the Wittenberg Singers present a fall concert titled "Music for the Season," Carol J. Todd, director, Diane Slagle, accompanist, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, in Weaver Chapel, and the Wittenberg Flute Choir and Wittenberg Chamber Ensembles, Lori Akins and Richard York, directors, will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 100 Krieg Hall. All concerts are free and open to the public.

THE IBM ENDOWED LECTURE IN THE SCIENCES, a Wittenberg Series-sponsored event, will feature 1986 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Dudley Herschbach, Harvard University professor emeritus of science. Herschbach's lecture, "The Impossible Takes a Little Longer," will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Center.

• "DINNER IN THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE," dining services last night in The Commons, will be held Friday, Nov. 12, and will include a Remembrance Wall, food specials and a "Last Customer" Award. After that, it will be closed for "an extreme makeover" and will re-open Jan. 10.

• THE COMMONS: ON-THE-MOVE begins Saturday, Nov. 13, as Wally's begins service as a temporary Commons.

• PERSONAL CARE ITEMS, pictured at right, were donated by Wittenberg students, faculty and staff for the 14th annual Make a Difference Day, Oct. 30. The boxes were placed in student residence halls and other campus buildings to collect donations for distribution to the Springfield/Clark County community. In addition, 20 Wittenberg students joined Kristen Collier, director of community service, at a work site to paint the interior of a transitional home for Interfaith Hospitality.

2004-05 ATHLETES OF THE WEEK, as recognized by the North Coast Athletic Conference or another official media outlet or governing body, can be seen online. This list will be updated weekly.

• IMANI GOSPEL CHOIR will hold its Annual Winter Concert at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 300 Krieg Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

• EAST ASIA STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS are available from The Freeman Advisory Committee for individual study abroad scholarships. Scholarships are available for study through spring 2006 in China, Japan and Korea. No prior language study is required, and students from all majors are encouraged to apply. Students must use the scholarship for study in a Wittenberg-approved, credit-bearing program for a semester, year or summer. Graduating seniors and freshmen are not eligible. • FREEMAN FOUNDATION TRAVEL GRANTS are available to support non-East Asian faculty, staff and administrators to experience the culture of East Asia in exchange for a commitment to broaden the understanding of East Asia on campus. Read more...
