• TRUDY FABER, professor of music, was one of 12 faculty/administrators chosen from across the country to attend a Network Exchange on Religious Studies Conference at Loyola University, Baltimore, April 18-21. Many of the issues to be discussed are directly relevant to the recommendations that resulted from the yearlong work of the Lutheran Identity Study Committee, which were approved by the Wittenberg Board of Directors in Fall 2006. This conference is funded by the Lilly Foundation. Faber will also present an organ recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Port Nelson United Church, Burlington, Ontario, Canada.

• ED HASECKE, assistant professor of political science, serves as one of the facilitators of The New York Times Casual Conversation Discussion Group. A member of the group won first place in the Letter to the Editor contest. Read more ...

• SCOTT DOOLEY, associate professor of art, spearheaded the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on campus. This year's event was organized by student coordinator Arwen Kirkpatrick '07 to fulfill her community service requirement. Read more ...

• MARK H. ERICKSON, president, wrote an article titled "Wittenberg University Students Would Be Hurt by Changes in Ohio Grant Program," which appeared in the Springfield News-Sun, April 5. Erickson discussed Governor Ted Strickland's proposed changes to the Ohio Student Choice Grant program. Read more ...

• LOWELL MONKE, associate professor of education and adjunct instructor of master's education, was quoted in an article titled "Preschoolers Are Plugged in," which appeared in the Lincoln, Neb., Journal Star on April 9. The article discussed the use of computers by pre-school and kindergarten children. Read more ...

• DARLENE BROOKS HEDSTROM, associate professor of history, gave a lecture titled "Defining a Monastery: Methodical Approaches in Monastic Archaeology" and conducted a seminar at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., for the Center for the Study of Early Christianity in March.

• DOUG LEHMAN, library director and associate professor, KEN IRWIN, reference librarian and assistant professor, and ALISA MIZIKAR, reference librarian and assistant professor, recently attended the 13th National Conference of the Association of College and Research Libraries. Thousands of academic librarians from around the country gathered in Baltimore, Md., to exchange ideas, network and enjoy the Inner Harbor.

•ARTIMUS KEIFFER, assistant professor of geography, was interviewed on World View, a program sponsored by the Global Center of Greater Cincinnati, which airs on Sunday nights on WMKV 89.3 FM. On March 4, Keiffer and a fellow traveler to India during the summer of 2005 commented on their trip and some of the cultural differences in a country that will soon be the most populous in the world. On March 25, he was a guest and producer of the program and focused his expertise on immigration issues from Middle America and the Caribbean. The mission of the GCGC is to promote grassroots involvement in world affairs.
