• WELCOME BACK. Around The Hollow returns to bi-weekly publication with this issue. Please send copies of department colloquia, seminar schedules and other events open to the community. • FALL SEMESTER 2006 is under way. Classes are in session, and Welcome Week will include the first Wonderful Wittenberg Wednesday featuring a tour of the new residence hall from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 23. A concert featuring The Waiting Game and Witroy will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in Myers Hollow. Greek Life will host a campus-wide ice cream social at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the platform outside the Benham-Pence Student Center.

• THE CLASS OF 2010 moved in Aug. 17. First-year students also made the traditional walk from Commencement Hollow to the HPER Center with President Mark Erickson. Erickson began the tradition with his first class of new students last year. Read more ...

• NEW STUDENT DAYS were filled with activities to help acquaint the newest members of the community with life on campus and things to do in the area. Read more ...

• CONCERNED BLACK STUDENTS hosted a lunch for multicultural students and their parents to acquaint them with one another and the university, as well as to celebrate the diversity of the Wittenberg community. Read more ...

• "BRING THE WORLD TO WITTENBERG and Wittenberg to the world," President Erickson has said, and 33 international students from 15 countries have joined the campus community. In addition, 46 Tigers will study in 13 countries — 34 fall semester and 12 for the academic year. The International Orientation Assistants and the new International Education class, left, were treated to a tour of the Heritage Center by Mary Humphries, academic department assistant for languages and Heritage Center docent.

• TECHNOLOGY UPGRADES have been made in 105 and 201 Joseph C. Shouvlin Center for Lifelong Learning, the Alumni and Li Rooms, Benham-Pence Student Center, and Koch Hall, Kissell Auditorium. Funded through a recent SBA grant, project includes installation of video projectors, audio systems and instructor work stations that are similar to the units in Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center classrooms. These facilities are available for meetings and presentations, and may be scheduled at scheduling_request@wiittenberg.edu.

• A STUDIO ART FACULTY EXHIBITION will be held from Monday, Aug. 21,-Friday, Sept. 22, in the Ann Miller Gallery, Koch Hall. Gallery hours are 8-5 Monday-Friday.

• THE ROSENCRANS FITNESS CENTER will open at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week for those who want to start the day with a workout before work.

• VOLLEYBALL GAMES for faculty and staff will be held during the faculty/staff workout hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week. A net will be set up in the Arena on the first court from the lobby entrance.

• DINING SERVICES has resumed regular hours of operation, and Café a la Cart will extend its hours on Mondays and Wednesdays until 8:30 p.m. Check the Dining Services Web site.

• WEEKDAY CHAPEL will resume at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, in Weaver Chapel, and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday when classes are in session.

• CAMPUS WORSHIP SERVICES will be held each Sunday that classes are in session with Worship Service at 11 a.m. in Weaver Chapel (coffee and doughnuts at 10:30 a.m.). In addition, Contemporary Worship will begin at 7 p.m. in Ness Family Auditorium, Hollenbeck Hall, and Roman Catholic Mass will be held at 9 p.m. in Weaver Chapel with Father Marv Hackman.

• EQUIPMENT DEMONSTRATIONS for the recent technology upgrades will be held at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 23-24, in 105 Shouvlin. Sessions will take about 30 minutes.

• A GREEK FORUM will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 205 Shouvlin Center. Non-Greeks, alumni, faculty, staff and community members are invited to discuss the effectiveness of Wittenberg's Greek community. Space is limited; please RSVP to attend.

THE WITTENBERG SERIES WEB SITE is up and running with the lineup of events for the 2006-2007 year, beginning with the Opening Convocation of the 162nd Academic Year. Dan P. McAdams, psychologist and educator, will deliver the keynote address at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, in Weaver Chapel.
