Timothy Bishop, police officer; Robbie Gantt, new media assistant for university communications; Teresa Walton, administrative assistant for financial aid; Joan Pallant, head of circulation for Thomas Library; Sarah Dundon, academic department assistant for management; Sarah Jusiewicz, admission counselor and math and science recruitment coordinator; and Stephanie Clark, special gifts officer for advancement; all joined the campus community during fall semester.

• THIRTY-TWO WITTENBERG EMPLOYEES RECEIVED 2006 SERVICE AWARDS. Hourly staff, administrative staff, security officers and physical plant craftsmen and staff were recognized for their years of service. Service Awards for 2006.

• TWO WITTENBERG STAFF MEMBERS retired during fall semester. Marj Newman, coordinator for news services, retired after more than 32 years, and Wilma Lewis, academic department assistant for management, retired after 15 years of service.

• SPRING SEMESTER begins Monday, Jan. 8, and students will begin moving into residence halls at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7.

• "POVERTY VS. PRIVILEGE IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY," a panel discussion concerning the debate between Michael Eric Dyson, the university’s 2007 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Commemorative Convocation speaker, and actor/comedian Bill Cosby on the state of disenfranchised people will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in Bayley Auditorium in the Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center. • THE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY Commemorative Convocation, a Wittenberg Series event, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, in Weaver Chapel. Michael Eric Dyson is the keynote speaker for the 2006-07 Wittenberg Series event, which is free and open to the public. Read more ...

• THE WITTENBERG GARDEN CLUB will hold its monthly brown bag lunch from 12-1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, in the Alumni Room, Benham-Pence Student Center. "Making Floral Note Cards," using digital photos will be presented by Judy O'Connor, retired director of off-campus programs. Dues are $2, and the meeting is open.

• THE WEIGHT WATCHERS @ WORK Program is being offered by the Office of Human Resources, which will pay $75 of the $110 membership fee for faculty and full-time staff members and a prorated amount for part time employees.
