• CHRISTOPHER DURRENBERGER, associate professor of music, will conduct a Performance Workshop Piano Night from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 12, Krieg Hall. • CAROL J. TODD, adjunct instructor of music, will conduct The Wittenberg Singers, assisted by the Wittenberg Handbell Choir, Margaret Dill, interim director, in concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, Weaver Chapel. The program is free and open to the public.


• DANIEL ZEHRINGER, adjunct instructor of music, will conduct the 26th Annual Gabrieli Brass Festival, Brass Choir Invitational, at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 15, Weaver Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.


• AMIL ANDERSON, associate professor of chemistry, MARGARET GOODMAN, associate professor of biology and director of biochemistry/molecular biology, JIM NOYES, retired professor of computational science, and JOHN RITTER, professor of geology, department chair and director of environmental sciences, are participating in a $480,000 grant program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). • ARTIMUS KEIFFER, assistant professor of geography, interviewed Anne Tibby '10 from Kingston, Jamaica, for a segment of the World View Radio Program Spotlights: Central America and the Caribbean, March 25. Keiffer is one of the show's producers and was also interviewed regarding immigration issues.

• PAUL PARLATO, dean of the School of Community Education and liberal studies director, was awarded the 2007 Order of Life Long Learning In Ohio at the 24th annual conference of the Ohio Continuing Higher Education Association in March for his contributions. Parlato also was honored with a Distinguished Community Leader award for his support of the Community Leadership Academy at the 26th Leadership Academy Graduation and Awards Ceremony dinner on March 22.

• TAMMY PROCTOR, associate professor of history, gave a talk titled "Spies, Intelligence, Deception, Seduction and Much More" at Urbana University in observance of Women's History Month on March 21. The event was cosponsored by The Order of the Lance History Club and the university's chapter of the American Association of University Women. Proctor focused on her book Female Intelligence: Women and Espionage in the First World War.

• ELMA LEE MOORE, director of adult leadership programs, and BARB MACKEY, director of community programs, attended the 24th annual conference of the Ohio Continuing Higher Education Association (OCHEA) on March 15-16, at Cherry Valley Lodge, Newark, Ohio. The theme of the conference was Continuing Education: Challenges and Opportunities, and Mackey facilitated a break-out session titled "OCHEA Members: Who Are We and Where are We Going?" Moore is serving her third year as treasurer and OCHEA Board of Directors member.

• JERRY PANKHURST, professor of sociology, was an invited participant in the international conference, “Islam and Orthodoxy: Confrontation, Cohabitation, and Comparison,” in Vienna, Austria, March 11-13. The conference was co-sponsored by the Institute of Culture, Religion and World Affairs of Boston University and the J.M. Dawson Institute of Church-State Studies, Baylor University, and was hosted by the Vienna-based Institute for Human Sciences. Pankhurst served as a discussant and chaired the session on “Comparative Approaches to the Study of Islam and Orthodoxy.” Following the Vienna conference, he traveled to Moscow to carry out a research project on “Foundations of Russian Orthodox Faith and Practice.” In collaboration with researchers at the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the religious self-conceptions of Russian Orthodox believers will be evaluated through the use of autobiographical open-ended interviews. The project has been funded by grants from the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion and the Wittenberg Faculty Research Fund.
