• TRUDY FABER, professor of music, presents her 41st annual organ concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 6, Weaver Chapel. The hour-long recital features “Prelude and Fugue in E minor” of J. S. Bach and “Sonata in D Major” by Rheinberger. In recent years, Faber began including compositions of women in her programs, and this year she will play a piece by the French woman composer Jeanne Demessieux. Faber also directs the Wittenberg Handbell Choir in concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, Weaver Chapel. Read more ...

• J. ARTHUR FABER, professor emeritus of English, will narrate the stanzas of the Dylan poem “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” throughout "Do Not Go Gentle” by Persichetti, while Trudy Faber performs the piece as she plays from two- to- four notes at once only with her feet.

 

• TIM LEWIS, professor of biology, presents "What's Hot and What's Not: Global Warming" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the Gaier Room of the Clark County Public Library. The program is part of the 2007-08 Global Education Speakers Series.

 

• FITZ SMITH, assistant professor of English, is the speaker at this year's Greek Desserts at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, CDR. Smith received the 2006 Faculty Award given by the Greek community.

 

• BRENDA BEEBE DUNCAN, vice president for university advancement, was welcomed to campus by the advancement, alumni relations and university communications staffs on March 31 when she began her duties.

 

• WARREN COPELAND, Kenneth E. Wray Chair in the Humanities, professor of religion, director of urban studies and mayor of Springfield, begins a three-year term as the first director of Wittenberg' Center for Civic and Urban Engagement.

 

• HEATHER WRIGHT, assistant professor of political science, serves as adviser for the Pre-Law Association. The group hosted its second annual Witt Law Day, April 3. Organizers of the event were the association's executive board members Andrew Tomko '09, Natalie Bacon '08 and Katie Tallman '08.


•ROBERT WELKER, professor of education, presents "Responding to Violence in the Schools: Building Compassionate Youth" at 12 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in Room 105 of the Joseph C. Shouvlin Center for Lifelong Learning, 737 N. Fountain Ave. The program is the second of the Noon Luncheon and Lecture Series. Read more ...


• WAYNE MAURER, associate professor of management, serves as Grand Marshall of the traditional academic procession, which will precede the 21st Annual Honors Convocation, April 18.


• SCOTT ROSENBERG, associate professor of history and Honor Council faculty adviser, returns to the South African Kingdom of Lesotho this summer. His class will be working with four orphanages that house more than 160 children, and he is collecting children's clothes (winter or summer) and small toys for children under 10. Gently-used donations can be dropped off at his office in Hollenbeck Hall.
