• PRESIDENT MARK H. ERICKSON notified the campus community that the Wittenberg Board of Directors unanimously approved the naming of the HPERC Arena the Pam Evans Smith Arena "in memory of our friend, colleague, and legendary head women’s basketball coach Pam Evans Smith, Wittenberg class of 1982." Erickson advised that a committee has been formed to work on the details related to the dedication, and he anticipates that the dedication ceremony will occur sometime early next semester.

• HALLOWEEN VISITED CAMPUS with several events celebrating the season including a Day of the Dead Spanish workshop and ofrenda on Nov. 2, sponsored by the languages department. The event provided an opportunity to make decorations and crafts, and learn more about the traditional celebration.

• THREE WOMEN'S VARSITY NCAC TOURNAMENTS take place on campus Friday-Saturday, Nov. 2-3, as Wittenberg hosts field hockey, soccer and volleyball competitions. Check the Athletics Web site for details.

• THE ANNUAL FALL DANCE CONCERT continues with performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Nov. 2-3, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, Chakeres Memorial Theatre. Tickets are $4. Read more ...

• THE WITTENBERG GUILD presents its 52nd annual Scholarship Style Show on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Center Dining Room in the Benham-Pence Student Center. This year's show, themed "Fashioning the Future," begins with a joint social hour and silent basket auction at 10 a.m. Read more ...

• A GUEST ARTIST RECITAL featuring Cynthia Lawing '71 and Gloria Cook '73 in a duo piano recital begins at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, Krieg Hall.

• A CHILDREN'S BOOK DRIVE, sponsored by Mortar Board, takes place Monday-Friday, Nov. 5-9. All donated new or gently used children's books will benefit the Warder Literacy Center in Springfield. Collection boxes will be placed in the Benham-Pence Student Center, Blair Hall, Hollenbeck Hall and the Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center. E-mail questions to Stephanie Rines.

• THE ANN MILLER GALLERY features a photography exhibit by Francis Schanberger from Nov. 5–Dec. 14. Schanberger received the Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship in 2003 and a Headlands Center for the Arts Residency in 2005. Read more ...

• A 3 x 30 POETRY READING, an open mic poetry reading, begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, Wally's Pub. Sponsored by the English department and the Creative Writing Program, the event will feature three-minute readings by 30 students and faculty of original poem(s).

• A HUNGER BANQUET, hosted by Dining Services and the Wittenberg Sociology Club, takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the CDR. The event is planned in conjunction with the Cans Across America food drive, which will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7. All food donations will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Clark, Champaign and Logan counties. Read more ...

THE WESTCOTT HOUSE FOUNDATION continues its 2007 Fall Lecture Series with "Beyond Wright's Shadow: Organic Architecture and the Postwar House” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center. Monica Penick, University of Texas at Austin, explores the legacy of Wright’s organic design in the two decades that followed World War II. Penick will examine Wright’s Usonian houses, and their impact on the middle-class American home, as evidenced in the work of the little-known but significant second generation of organic architects, including John deKoven Hill (designer of the Corbett House, Cincinnati), and Alfred Browning Parker. Admission is free.

• A FACULTY ARTIST RECITAL featuring Lawrence Pitzer, adjunct instructor of music, lute, begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, Krieg Hall.

• POPPING THE BUBBLE, "Alcohol, Gender and Cultural Diversity: Discussions about Campus Community," begins at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, Bayley Auditorium. The program, sponsored by the Wittenberg Sociology Club, Office of the President, Office of Multicultural Student Programs and the Global Studies Program, provides a time for students, faculty and staff to talk and ask questions about our campus community.

• THE WITTENBERG SINGERS, Joyce Wendel, director, and WITTENBERG CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, Brandon Jones, director, present a joint concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, Weaver Chapel.

• THE WITTENBERG FLUTE CHOIR, Lori Akins, director, presents a concert beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, Krieg Hall.

THE DAYTON CONTEMPORARY DANCE COMPANY (DCDC) offers a change of pace for the 2007-08 Witt Series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, Kuss Auditorium, Clark State Performing Arts Center. The event, sponsored by Qbase, a global leader in data management, data analysis and strategic consulting solutions now with operations in the Springfield area, is free and open to the public.
