• THOMAS T. TAYLOR, professor of history, leads a walking historical tour of campus beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, from Morris Lounge, Benham-Pence Student Center.

 

• BRANDON JONES, assistant professor of music, conducts the Wittenberg Symphonic Band in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, Weaver Chapel. The program includes compositions by J.S. Bach, Eric Whitacre, Jack Stamp, Morton Gould and Darius Milhaud.


• JEFF ANKROM, professor of economics, and FRED TIFFANY, associate professor of economics and department chair, present " Q & A about the Economy" at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, Ness Family Auditorium. Submit questions by e-mail to Kristen Gibson, assistant professor and reference librarian, by Tuesday, Oct. 14.

• BILL BROWN, head men's basketball coach, and SARAH JUREWICZ, head women's basketball coach, will conduct the 13th Annual Junior Tiger Basketball Club beginning in November. The event includes five one-hour instructional clinics, a club logo T-shirt, a club logo basketball and a membership card good for admission to all women's and men's games. The clinics are held on Saturday mornings and conducted by coaches and players from both programs. An 8 to 1 teaching ratio of club members to instructor is typical. Application information.

• TRUDY FABER, professor of music, presents a dedication recital Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

 

• TOM MARTIN, professor of HFS, completed a four-month Fulbright Scholar grant to study and teach Physical Education in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) in May 2008. Read more ...

 

• JOHN CANTRELL, adjunct instructor in languages, advised the campus community of the Safe Zone Project. Information on the program and door stickers for Safe Zones are available by e-mailing Cantrell or contacting the Center for Diversity, 641 Faculty Court, 324-2191. Reflection week ends with as the GSA float participates in the Homecoming Parade and the GLBT and Ally Center for Diversity holds an Open House following the Homecoming game, Saturday, Oct. 11.


• HORTON HOBBS, professor of biology, JAMES ALLEN, assistant professor of political science, and D'ARCY FALLON, associate professor of English, recently shared learning outside the classroom experiences with their Witt Sem classes with trips to Carter Caves in Kentucky, the Frank Lloyd Wright Westcott House in Springfield and the nation's capital.

• MAUREEN FRY, director of the Writing Center, has copies of the 2008 editions of Spectrum and The Wittenberg Review of Literature and Art. Both publications feature the work of Wittenberg students. Call 6154 or e-mail Fry for copies.

• WARREN COPELAND, professor of religion, director of urban studies and mayor of Springfield, spoke at the rededication of the Esplanade in downtown Springfield, Sept. 25.
