L. Training and Development
Wittenberg encourages and supports the continuous professional development of its staff. Activities or
programs that enhance skills, knowledge, and effectiveness are encouraged, and funding is available
each year to assist employees in these efforts. Funding is limited and is available on a first-come, firstserved basis. Professional Development grants are available in three forms:
1. Workshop/Conference Grants: Your department may choose to fund the cost of travel and
fees for you to attend a work-related event or conference. In addition, the Human Resources department makes travel grants available for attending workshops, seminars, or similar programs. Travel grants are awarded to defray registration costs and are limited to a maximum of $400 per staff member per year. Requests for multiple participants attending the same conference should be submitted by the department head as one request and will be treated as one development opportunity. The amount of the grant will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
2. Tuition Reimbursement Grants: Available for courses not offered at Wittenberg. Eighty
percent (80%) of tuition only is reimbursed to the employee upon satisfactory completion of prior
approved courses of study. Courses must be work-related and taken at approved institutions of learning. Requests should be submitted prior to the start of the course. Tuition reimbursement grants are limited to a maximum of four courses per year per employee.
3. Computer Training: The Human Resources department purchases training vouchers from
New Horizons Learning Center in Fairborn, Ohio. These are generally one day, hands-on workshops on various software applications including, but not limited to, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
