H. Outside Employment and Conflicts of Interest

The University discourages outside employment by full-time regular staff. Before accepting other
employment, staff members are expected to discuss the extent of the responsibilities in advance with
their supervisors. If you do accept any outside employment in addition to full-time work at Wittenberg,
it must be secondary to your position and responsibilities at Wittenberg and must not impinge upon your attendance or the quality or quantity of your work. University staff have an obligation to avoid ethical, legal, financial, and other conflicts of interest to ensure that their outside activities and interests do notconflict with their primary responsibilities at Wittenberg.

Equipment, supplies, materials, or clerical services of the university may not be used in the furtherance of outside work for pay. Staff members engaging in outside professional activities for compensation will not use the name of Wittenberg University in any manner that suggests institutional endorsement or support of a non-university enterprise, product or service. Neither business cards nor university stationery bearing the university name, address, and/or campus telephone numbers can be used in connection with such outside professional activities. If you believe that it would be in the interest of the university to support your work, you may seek supervisor approval to use university supplies.

In addition, please refer to Appendix H, which states the university’s policy on commercial solicitation,
and Appendix L, which describes the university’s policy on political activity.
