The Math Workshop is a place where you can come to get help with courses, both math and math-related. We can assist and prepare students with classes, assist students in raising math placement scores and help to plot a plan for you to meet all your mathematical needs. The Math Workshop employs approximately 40 student tutors who are majoring in math or math related fields of study. The workshop has attained Level I Tutor Training Certification set forth by standards established by the College Reading and Learning Association, an international organization that certifies effective college and university tutor training program from all regions of the United States, the Canadian provinces, and several European and Asian countries. So when you come to the Math Workshop, you will be in good hands! If you have not taken the Math Placement test and would like to review for it, please contact us so that we can give you some advice as to how to prepare. We can give you handouts and additional algebra help can be found at www.mathzone.com Algebra practice tests can be found at: http://mathcenter.usf.edu/courses/intermediate/inter_tests.html After you take the Math Placement test, please stop in and speak to the Math Workshop coordinator to find out what the results mean and what your next move should be. If you need to review some math to take courses, you can come and do that. If you are in a math course, you can come for help, or, if you don't need help, just come in for a place to study (with the answer book). The great thing about studying here is that you have a tutor available if you need it and you can talk with other students in your class. Discussing the material is the best way of learning it. It seems like every term there's at least one student that comes in not because they need help, but just to get their work done. And, surprisingly, they always seem to do well in the course. And if you are considering a career in teaching, especially math teaching but even elementary school, this is the place to work. You can get some real experience in teaching topics that you will be teaching in "real" life. Come on in and talk to the coordinator. So even if you're not going to take a math course right away, you may want to pop in, just for a look at the place. We're located in 218 Hollenbeck. Our phone number is 327-6155. Call or visit when you get to campus. We'll be looking forward to meeting you!
