PEACE CARDSThink about giving Peace Cards for the holidays this year. Anyone you choose will receive a beautiful holiday card which includes a CD of holiday music from other lands. All proceeds go to Peace Camp. Simply send your donation to Springfield Peace Center P>O> Box 571 Springfield, Ohio 45501 and the name and address of who you want the card and CD sent to and we will send them off a couple of weeks before the holidays. WHAT IS HAPPENING NOWAlternatives To Violence classes will begin again at several Springfield elementary schools this fall. The Leadership Club at Springfield Metropolitan Housing's Sherman Court location continues weekly. They will be getting school supplies for their classrooms soon and are working on anger management and bullying issues. PEACE CAMP 2008Peace Camp 2008 was a huge success. We had more children register than ever before--242--and there was a waiting list. The children collected over 420 cans for their community project-the Sarah and Reese Kibler Memorial Canned Food Drive in which food is donated to a local food pantry. Our parent/caregiver discussion group was active at Camp this year. In fact, this discussion group will meet all year long. For more information on joining this group call the Peace Center at (937)327-3977. There were two Mediation Training held prior to Peace Camp. The Peace Center combined with Springfield Mediation and Clark County Common Pleas Court Mediation to train 41 students from Springfield North and South High Schools. Since these schools are merging into one school this year, these 41 students will be the foundation of the new combined mediation program. Another training in June at Wittenberg University trained 27 other area teens in mediation skills. These students helped mediate disputes during Peace Camp and performed a mediation role play.
