PEACE CAMP 2008

Peace Camp 2008 was a huge success. We had more children register than ever before--242--and there was a waiting list. The children collected over 420 cans for their community project-the Sarah and Reese Kibler Memorial Canned Food Drive in which food is donated to a local food pantry. Our parent/caregiver discussion group was active at Camp this year. In fact, this discussion group will meet all year long. For more information on joining this group call the Peace Center at (937)327-3977. There were two Mediation Training held prior to Peace Camp. The Peace Center combined with Springfield Mediation and Clark County Common Pleas Court Mediation to train 41 students from Springfield North and South High Schools. Since these schools are merging into one school this year, these 41 students will be the foundation of the new combined mediation program. Another training in June at Wittenberg University trained 27 other area teens in mediation skills. These students helped mediate disputes during Peace Camp and performed a mediation role play.

Peace Camp 2007

Peace Camp 2007 was a great success with over 225 students signed up including a waiting list of students. Our trained mediators helped in the classrooms and presented an actual mediation to the older children. Our parent class was very diverse and all of the parents/caregivers enjoyed exchanging ideas. There were over 300 people who attended our picnic/fair on Thursday evening of Peace Camp to see what the children had learned during the week. A great potluck dinner was enjoyed by all and everyone enjoyed the Silent Auction. Our community project, collecting cans for food pantries, was in memory of Sara and Reece Kibler and the Campers donated more cans than ever--420--to benefit two food pantries.

20th Peace Camp Huge Success!!!

The 20th annual Peace Camp, held June 12-16 at Perrin Woods Elementary School, brought hundreds of former Peace Campers together. The picnic / fair on Thursday, June 15, showcased projects made by the children and special quilts and flags made for the 20th anniversary celebration. Former Peace Center directors, Shirley Wuchter, Susan McKinney, and Peggy Hanna, spoke at the Peace Fair. An all kazoo band featuring present and former Peace Campers entertained the gathering. A very successful silent auction led by Steve Schlather was held to raise money for Camp. Our Peace Camp was covered by the television stations and the Springfield News Sun.
