A Welcome from President Mark Erickson

Welcome to Wittenberg University. As the new president of this nationally ranked institution, I can certainly identify with our prospective students, having recently completed a process similar to theirs – one that required me to figure out if Wittenberg was indeed the right fit for me.

Although Wittenberg’s reputation as one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the country impressed me, I needed to be passionate about this place before I could call it home. I quickly discovered that passion during my first visit to campus. Wittenberg is an extraordinary university that draws students from around the world and across the nation. It is also a place that attracts top faculty members, who are not only great scholars and outstanding teachers, but who care deeply about our students and consistently engage them in the learning process.

I have seen our faculty’s passion for teaching firsthand in our classrooms, where collaborative research opportunities and intense intellectual inquiry flourish and combine to ignite a lifelong love of learning in our students and challenge them in ways they never imagined.

With each activity and each academic endeavor, our students learn to value and appreciate the diversity of the human experience. They also begin to understand the issues facing the increasingly complex world that awaits them, and they find innovative, creative ways to address them.

I am honored to be a part of this vibrant community, and I’m proud of our commitment to service and to educating the entire person. Wittenberg, like many institutions of higher education, certainly prepares students for their first job, but few take it to the next level like we do.

At Wittenberg, we prepare students for life in the fullest sense of all that means: how to become lifelong learners, friends, community leaders and global citizens, and in the process, we change our students’ lives in powerful and meaningful ways. Our alumni confirm it, sharing with ease during my visits with them how this professor or that professor helped them discover who they were meant to be.

I am truly passionate about Wittenberg, and I encourage you to see why by visiting our dynamic campus in Springfield, Ohio. Once here, I am confident that you will discover for yourself, just as I did, what makes us distinctively Wittenberg and why my family and I chose to call this beautiful campus home.
