How do I calculate my Grade Point Average?
The simple answer is that you multiple the number
of credit hours earned by the number of quality points earned.
| GPA | = | TOTAL QUALITY POINTS FOR ALL GRADED COURSES |
| TOTAL CREDITS FOR ALL GRADED COURSES |
Quality point values are assigned to each letter grade:
| A+ | = | 4.000 | C+ | = | 2.333 | |
| A | = | 4.000 | C | = | 2.000 | |
| A- | = | 3.667 | C- | = | 1.667 | |
| B+ | = | 3.333 | D+ | = | 1.333 | |
| B | = | 3.000 | D | = | 1.000 | |
| B- | = | 2.667 | D- | = | 0.667 | |
| F | = | 0.000 |
Courses with I, L, NC, NR, S, X, or W grades are not calculated in GPA. Wittenberg GPA is calculated using only courswork completed at Wittenberg University.
Example 1: To determine your semester (term)
gpa
| Credit Hour | Grade
Earned |
Credit Hour | Quality Point Value | Total Quality Points | ||||
| BIOL 204 | 5 cr. | B+ | 5 | x | 3.333 | = | 16.665 | |
| CMLN 100L | 4 cr. | A | 4 | x | 4.000 | = | 16.000 | |
| ENGL 101E | 4 cr. | C- | 4 | x | 1.667 | = | 6.668 | |
| HIST 115H | 4 cr. | F | 4 | x | 0.000 | = | 0.000 | |
| HFS 010P | 1 cr. | S | do not use | |||||
| Total credits | 17 | 39.333 | ||||||
Answer:
| GPA | = | TOTAL QUALITY POINTS FOR ALL GRADED COURSES | = | 39.333 | = | 2.314 |
| TOTAL CREDITS FOR ALL GRADED COURSES | 17 |
Example 2: To determine your cumulative GPA, you would
total all quality points and all credits for all graded courses earned
at Wittenberg and insert into the equation above.
