This day camp is a joint project of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and Wittenberg. The co-sponsors have newly configured the program as an integral training activity of SSO’s Youth Symphony—and exclusively for strings.
For those at the lower levels of age and skill, Kaleidoscope provides an intensive introduction to the ensemble skills they will need to function within the Youth Symphony and related groups. For those at the more mature levels of age and skill, the program provides an opportunity for reinforcement of ensemble skills and the addition of new techniques.
We have designed the program to accommodate different levels and to provide an enjoyable and instructive variety of sectional and larger group playing. Kaleidoscope is five days of fun, friendship, and learning centered around making music. Our closing experience is a concert presented at the Clark State Performing Arts Center.
Who can attend String players entering grades 4 through 9. Students must have completed at least 1 year of lessons and be able to read music. Each camper will have a placement audition the first day of camp.
