Wittenberg traditional students
The comprehensive statement for the Summer Session, including policies on credit loads, drop/add dates, room and board charges, and the like is the Summer Bulletin, distributed to all students in early March. Additional copies are available in the SCE Office and the Registrar's Office. A preliminary schedule is available in both offices in early December.

Summer tuition is by the credit. The 2008 charge is $452 per credit, less than half the charge for an overload credit in a regular semester.

Concerning payment and registration and the complete listing of charges, in comparing summer costs you need to be wary of the generic term "per credit." Wittenberg uses the semester credit; many other schools use the quarter credit. One semester credit = 1.5 quarter credits. Because of this "apples vs. oranges" ratio of unequal values, quarter credit charges appear deceptively low. Thus, for example, Wright State University's tuition of $219 per quarter credit (2007) is actually equivalent to $303 per semester credit.

See the Summer Incentive Grant (SIG) table below. Note that the effective Wittenberg tuition charge for SIG recipients is comparable to - or even less than - the typical state university level. And whether you're a SIG recipient or not, our Summer payment procedure - no registration deposit, payment due several weeks after the start of the session - helps to make your Summer costs manageable.

A special feature of the Summer is our Summer Incentive Grant (SIG), with funding through Wittenberg SCE. Click Here to download form . If you receive need-based aid during the regular semesters and your EFC(Expected Family Contribution - from FAFSA analysis) is $15,000 or less, you should be eligible. (Don't know your EFC? Contact the Financial Aid offices). SIGs come in the following three levels, according to EFC:

$159 per credit	EFC of $3800 or less
$100 per credit	EFC of $3801 - $8000
$68 per credit	EFC of $8001- $15000

The charges for off-campus field study programs follow a direct-cost model, with only a modest relationship to tuition. Nevertheless, SIGs are available for these programs, at $37 per credit for anyone qualifying for SIG.

Application is simple: complete the one-sheet SIG application from either SCE or the Financial Aid Office (Mrs. Lynn Thoma - Room 2 Recitation Hall) and submit it to Mrs. Thoma. You should receive your award letter within a few days, and the SIG will be deducted from your charges.

OIG Recipients
If you are eligible for an Ohio Instructional Grant (OIG), you can use this grant for the Summer without necessarily losing your entitlement for the normal eight semesters. OIG requires enrollment for at least 12 credits. Contact Financial Aid for details.

OSCG Recipients
Any Wittenberg student who is an Ohio resident and enrolling full-time receives an Ohio Student Choice grant (currently $330 per semester), regardless of need. You can now count the Summer Session as one of your full-time OSCG semesters if you enroll for 12 credits or more--but note that you can receive only two OSCGs in a given year. Contact Financial Aid concerning the details of your case.

Taking Summer Credits at Other Schools

Here are some considerations you need to note.

• See the sections above on the difference between semester and quarter credits. Generally, in order to satisfy a typical Wittenberg 4-credit requirement, a transfer course must carry at least 3 semester credits or 5 quarter credits. (Even if you satisfy the requirement, you still "owe" the missing credit within your degree credit total.)
  
• In order to transfer credits back to Wittenberg, you must complete a Request To Transfer Credit form, obtained from the Registrar's Office, and secure the required signatures. Your credits are not valid without approval of this form.
  
• If you are seeking to satisfy a General Education requirement, you must submit the Request To Transfer Credit form and then, within 30 days of your return to campus, a Student Petition ... to the Director of General Education along with a 250-word statement concerning achievement of learning goals for each course (specifications included on the Petition form).
  
• In order to transfer Math and Math-related credits back to Wittenberg, you must a) attain beforehand the Wittenberg Math Placement Level associated with the course and b) obtain the approval of the Mathematics Department on your request form.
  
• If you are seeking to satisfy a requirement in your major, you must obtain the signatures of your advisor and department chair on your Request form.
  
• Transfer credits have no GPA effect; you cannot elevate your GPA through such credits.
  
• Transfer courses do not carry the Repeat effect. If, for instance, you are seeking to nullify the GPA effect of an F grade in POLI 101S, you can do so only by taking Wittenberg's POLI 101S. A similar course from another school, even if approved as meeting the S-requirement, does not count as a Repeat.
