NOTIFICATIONS
In the event the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning or the lookout spots a funnel cloud, the University Dispatcher will notify the Student Development professional who is on-call, the Chief of Police and the Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Special Assistant to the President. These administrators will notify the campus community as appropriate. All Residence Hall staff will be notified.
When the weather is hot and muggy and changes quickly, or when it appears there is a "calm before the storm," members of the Wittenberg community should turn on the radio or TV to monitor the weather. Know the difference between a watch and a warning.
Tornado watch - means the atmospheric conditions are right for a tornado to develop. You should stay near the radio or TV to listen for more information about the situation.
Tornado warning - are issued when an eyewitness has reported a tornado or detected by radar. (NOTE: Radar detects only about 50% of tornados.) It is the take cover announcement for those in the storm's path and is issued for specific counties or parts of counties.
