Wittenberg University
Credit Card Proclamation
With the increasing costs of education, Wittenberg fully understands the importance of being able to accept all forms of payment to cover tuition, room, board and fees associated to the cost of attendance. Even though Wittenberg accepts most forms of payment, at this time we do not allow Traditional Students to pay balances with a Credit Card.
The reason for lack of this payment option is due to merchant costs that would be imposed upon the University. The amount we lose to the bank exchange fees is approximately 1.7 to 2.1%. With over $38,000,000.00 of income exposed to a card program, even if we only have 25% participation, we are looking at fees in excess of $190,000.00. For Wittenberg, this is a significant expense that would reduce the resources we make available for scholarship and student assistance.
Even though we do not accept credit cards through the Office of Student Accounts at this time, we do re-evaluate our stance from time to time in hopes of seeing changes in the marketplace that will enable us to extend this service to families.
