Animé Club The purpose of Kaizoku-ou Anime is to offer Wittenberg students and faculty a way to learn about Japanese culture, customs, and language through the viewing and discussion of anime (Japanese animation) in an informal recreational setting, and through engaging in other anime related activities. Membership: Includes officers, Wittenberg students, faculty, staff, and non-Wittenberg community members. A member is expected to come to at least 1 meeting per month. Meetings are typically held on Friday nights at 7 p.m. Chinese Cultural Dance Club The Chinese Cultural Dance Club is an organization which exists for interested students to explore the rich and varied aspects of Chinese culture, with a focus on the many different types of Chinese dance forms. These dance forms include the Dragon Dance, Lion Dance, Drum Dance, Fan Dance, and Ribbon Dance. Within this overall club, exists the Wittenberg Dragon Dance Team and the Wittenberg Lion Dance Team. These teams perform both on and off-campus during both semesters in order to spread an interest for and knowledge of these beautiful forms of expression and community effort. The Teams typically meet once a week, or more during the weeks preceding a performance. The Chinese Cultural Dance Club meets about once a month. As a whole, this group participates in the East Asian Studies Festival and the Chinese New Year Festival. Cigar Club This club will serve as a medium for Wittenberg students and staff interested in enriching their cultural palettes through conversation. Membership: Open to all students, faculty, and staff. Comic Book Club This club exists to formulate serious and open-minded discussion about comic books from all countries, genres, and publishers, both mainstream and underground, by readers from all backgrounds. Outdoors Club The Outdoors Club gives students the opportunity to enjoy a variety of outdoor explorations. Members regularly schedule trips to various sites. Activities Include: Day and weekend camping, rafting, climbing, skiing, and horseback riding trips are scheduled each semester. Membership: Open membership. Meetings are held monthly in Ness Auditorium, or as announced. Role-Playing Guild The Wittenberg Role-Playing Guild serves to provide a commune for enthusiasts of role-playing games in which they can gather together and enjoy each others’ company in a gaming atmosphere. The Guild sponsors a mailing list for communications between gamers, and currently sponsors games like Dungeons and Dragons, Vampire: The Masquerade, Paranoia, Star Wars and many others. Guild meetings are typically held every month, with individual games usually meeting weekly. Annually, the Guild holds WittCon, a community-wide role-playing games convention, created with help from local gaming store Howling Wolf Studios. The Guild also sponsors minor events throughout the scholastic year such as one-shot marathon games, movies in Post 95, and the Battle of the Zones. Society for Extraordinary Phenomena President: TBA Adviser: Jo Wilson, Professor of Psychology Office Phone: 327-7479 The purpose of this organization is to spread awareness, knowledge, and to educate students and professors on unconventional topics that are not traditionally a part of a college curriculum. We will analyze such phenomena through a scholarly lens. Students Today Alumni Forever (STAF) President: Sarah Smith, s08.sjsmith Adviser: Pam Schindler, Professor of Management Office Phone: 327-7904 The purpose of STAF is to create and maintain a strong relationship between students and alumni through university communication and on-campus involvement. The ultimate goal is to prepare students today to become alumni forever. Tiger Pride The purpose of Tiger Pride is to strengthen the bonds between all members of the Wittenberg community by supporting both varsity and club athletic events. Achievement of this goal requires a fan base of athletes, non-athletes, faculty and staff who are willing to attend athletic events. The Wittenberg Swingers President: Erica Snipes, s09.esnipes Adviser: Margaret Goodman, Associate Professor of Biology Office Phone: 327-6480 The Wittenberg Swingers is a swing dance group that practices a mixture of east and west coast swing. The club meets every week to learn fun and challenging moves in a social atmosphere, and membership is not limited to couples. Throughout the year, the Swingers sponsor various events and trips to encourage student interaction and learning. The members also choreograph and peform routines for the campus. Lessons are free and continue all year long. Membership: Open to all students and faculty.
