WHAT IS HOUSING LOTTERY?
Housing Lottery is the process by which our current registered students select residence hall rooms for the next academic year. Students will select rooms according to their Housing Lottery number (lowest number to highest).
HOW ARE HOUSING LOTTERY NUMBERS ASSIGNED?
Housing Lottery numbers will be assigned to all full-time traditional students currently enrolled at Wittenberg. The numbers are randomly computer generated according to class year, based on earned credits at the end of the Fall 2008 Semester plus all registered credits for Spring 2009, as recorded by the University Registrar as of March 6, 2009.Current students (0-59 credits) will be issued a green lottery card, (60-92 credits) a blue card and (93 and above credits) a yellow card. You may not sell or trade a lottery number to another student. Students who attempt to do so will be moved to the end of the list.
IS THERE ANYTHING I MUST DO IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HOUSING LOTTERY?
Yes. If you have any type of hold on your account, you will receive a Housing Lottery Number; however, you will not be allowed to select a room if a hold exists. Double check to make sure you do not have any holds; such as a Dean’s hold, outstanding library fines, or an unpaid balance on your student account prior to attending housing lottery. You must contact the appropriate office to address any hold(s) by Friday, March 27 at 5 p.m. in order to participate in the housing lottery.
CAN I STAY IN MY CURRENT ROOM NEXT YEAR?
Although there is a possibility that you will be able to select your current room to live in again next year, you will not have an advantage over any other student who may want that same room. Students are more than welcome to sign up for their current room on lottery night, if it has not already been reserved.
HOW DOES THE HOUSING LOTTERY PROCESS WORK?
Your official Housing Lottery Card is included with your housing pamphlet, this card will be sent to your mailbox on March 20. The Housing Lottery Card is your entry ticket to Housing Lottery, which will be held on March 30th, and April 2, 2009. In order to select A ROOM, you must have your housing lottery card and your Wittenberg ID. You and your roommate(s) should arrive at Housing Lottery with several room choices in case your first choice has already been selected. The person with the lowest number in your group officially selects the room for the group. You should attend Housing Lottery during the time allotted for the lowest number in your group. It is important for you to be on time for your assigned lottery time. We will begin calling numbers for each group promptly at the start time. If you have missed your time slot or you arrive after your number has been called, you will have to wait until the end of the your time slot of the housing lottery. For instance, if your time is 6:00 p.m. you should arrive at 5:45 p.m. at the latest.
WHAT IF I CAN’T ATTEND HOUSING LOTTERY?
If you know you will not be available during your appointed time slot prior to March 30, 2009, you may fill out the proxy form that will be enclosed with your housing card. This form will allow a friend or your future roommate to be your proxy. That person must have the completed proxy form with them at the designated time slot in order to select a room. If for some reason, you miss housing lottery, you may select a room by contacting Connie Manes in Student Development at 327-7827 after April 2, 2009.
HOUSING LOTTERY FOR ALL OF MYERS HALL, WOODLAWN HALL, AS WELL AS ALL DESIGNATED SINGLES, TRIPLE AND QUAD ROOMS:
Since limited amounts of honors housing and specialty rooms are available, a special lottery will be held. The special housing lottery for these rooms will be held on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 6:00 PM in 201/203 shouvlin. If you are unable to select the room you wish on that evening, you may still attend the General Housing Lottery, held April 2, 2009 (see below).

WHAT IF I CAN’T FIND A ROOMMATE?
If you do not have a roommate, you may choose a room in any building. The next student to go through Housing Lottery without a roommate will receive the same opportunity (they can pick a room in any building). However, if that student who went after you chooses the same building, he/she will be placed in the same room with you. Therefore, you receive the opportunity and flexibility to choose a hall; however, you may not get to choose the specific room/roommate if a vacancy does exist in that building. If a vacancy doesn’t exist, then you can choose your specific room. A vacancy is created when a double room only has one person assigned to it.
WHAT IF I WANT TO LIVE WITH A NEW, TRANSFER OR CURRENT COMMUTER STUDENT NEXT YEAR?
If you plan on living with a new or transfer student, the student must be accepted to Wittenberg by March 30, 2009 and should request you in their on-line housing application.
You must contact Connie Manes in Student Development prior to April 3, 2009 at 5:00 PM to formally request to reserve space for an incoming student. If the student does not attend Wittenberg, another student will be placed in the empty space.
WHAT IF MY ROOMMATE WITHDRAWS OVER THE SUMMER?
A new student will be placed in the empty space and we will attempt to notify you of your new roommate’s information. Students who choose triples or quads in Housing Lottery should understand that if a roommate withdraws, the potential exists for them to be moved into other spaces on campus to accommodate students on the triple/quad waiting lists.
LOFT INFORMATION
For quality control of safety standards, beginning with the 2009-10 academic year, the only lofts permitted in the residence halls are those available through Open Space Concepts (www.openspaceconcepts.com). If you are currently using a homemade loft, you will be allowed to continue to use that loft during your tenure in the residence halls, but you may not sell or loan it to other students for future use in Wittenberg residence halls.
Lofts can be rented for all halls except Myers, Polis and the New Residence Hall.
WHERE CAN I HAVE A MICRO-FRIDGE?
Micro-fridge units are permitted in all of the residence halls. To request information about renting a unit, contact Open Space Concepts at www.openspaceconcepts.com.
WHAT IF I DON’T GET THE ROOM THAT I WANT?
A waiting list will be available at Housing Lottery and Special Room Lottery. We will contact you if space becomes available.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Break housing for the 2009-10 academic years will be limited to New Hall, Tower and the Polis House. As an international student, you will be guaranteed break housing ONLY if your permanent room is in one of these three buildings.
Please feel free to contact your Resident Advisor or Area Coordinator
for assistance. If you have concerns about the lottery process, please contact Connie Manes at 327-7827 or cmanes@wittenberg.edu.
