Twenty-four Wittenberg students,
the largest group ever, joined biology professors
Ron deLanglade and Tim Lewis
on the Bahamian island of San Salvador
for the summer biology research program.
The students were there to study coral reefs
and the sea life which surrounds the island.
Among their activities during the
month-long program were scuba dives to
get a close-up view of the reefs. It was not
all fun and sun however, as the group
spent several hours each day in the classroom
with lectures and lab activity.
Another group of seven students
studied Spanish and Andean culture in
Quito, Ecuador. That group was led by
Christine McIntyre, assistant professor of
languages. The students were able to experience
four ecological zones within an
hour's drive of Quito, which sits at an
elevation of 9,000 feet. That summer
study trip also lasted about a month.
