David T. Thackery, formerly of Urbana, OH, died July 17, 1998 in Chicago, IL. Curator of local and family history at the Newberry Library of Chicago, he was a regular speaker for genealogical societies throughout the Midwest. His history of the 66th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, a Civil War regiment from Champaign County (OH), will soon be published by Kent State University Press. His mother and several aunts, uncles and cousins survive.

Michael K. Gould is the only person in the Midwest qualified to teach shakuhachi, a Japanese bamboo flute. The title of Dai Shihan (Grand Master) was bestowed on him while he lived in Japan to recognize his teaching and performing achievements. He teaches at Wittenberg, Oberlin and at his Ann Arbor, MI, studio.
