With help from four-year outfield starter Bryan Magoteaux and catcher Shawn Burton, Wittenberg is prepared to face a challenging schedule that opens against Thomas More Feb. 27. Magoteaux started all 37 games with a .346 batting average. He had a team high 14 homeruns and 52 runs batted in. Softball
After an inaugural conference season with a second-place finish in the NCAC, the Tigers are ready to battle for a first-place finish in 1999. Contributions from All-NCAC performers Holly Mehringer, Lauren Hobson and Carisa Clagg will add to the Tiger’s success in the next year. Mehringer started in 28 games at outfielder with a .410 batting average and earned All-Central Region honors. Hobson pitched an even .500 season with a 3.83 earned run average while starting in 12 games for the Tigers. Both will provide considerable support for Wittenberg. Also look for contribution from sophomore Caroline Mann who batted a .348 in 20 games last season.
Men's Lacrosse
The Tigers finished last year with their first winning season since 1983, posting a 10-6 overall record and fourth place in the conference. They want to improve even more during the 1999 season. Look for contributions from returning starter Michael Oliver at goalie who had 238 saves and a .638 save percentage average last season and senior Mark Burrell at midfield. Burrell is the leading returning scorer with 18 goals and 16 assists last season while earning second team All-NCAC honors. The Tigers are guided by head coach Bruce Reid who wants to continue the winning tradition at Wittenberg.

After a 8-9 record and a sixth-place finish last season, the Tigers are ready to step up a notch and play a challenging role in the fight for the conference title. Continuing to build a successful program, head coach Nancy Beck will look for contribution from returning leading scorer and All-NCAC selection Megan McKenna. McKenna, a sophomore forward, led the Tigers with 51 goals and four assists last season while starting in all 17 games and earning All-West Region honors. Also look for sophomores Kim Miller and Kati Robbins to play a role in the success of the Tigers. Miller, a defensive player, led the team in groundballs with 89 and earned both All-NCAC honors and All-West Region honors. Robbins finished the season with 24 goals and 7 assists and is excepted to continue to be a major scoring threat for the Tigers.

Wittenberg will use the senior leadership of number one singles player Debbie Cassell to help them move closer to the conference title. Cassell was an honorable mention All-NCAC selection last season for the Tigers. A young squad with the makeup of mainly sophomores and freshmen will also look for contributions from senior Lisa Milley and sophomores Larisa Kruze and Marianna Bracht to help them into a winning season.
Golf
Under the watchful eye of second year head coach Chris Wilberding, the Tigers are ready to step up on the course. Look for improvements on a team that finished fifth in the NCAC last season. A fifth-place finish in the NCAC was not what the Tigers had anticipated after winning the conference title the previous season, and this year the Tigers are ready to regain what they lost.
