Demchak to lead university's alumni efforts
A 1992 graduate of Wittenberg, Demchak replaces Doug Goodman, ‘ 76, who became dean of admissions at St. Margaret’s McTernan School in Waterbury, Conn., last May after nine years at Wittenberg. Demchak will lead an alumni relations effort which includes programming on and off campus for 23,000 alumni, parents and friends worldwide.“I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to serve my alma mater as the director of alumni relations. I can’t think of a better job. I work at my favorite university to serve a wonderful and dedicated group of alumni,” Demchak said. “It is so important for our alumni to know they have a home on campus at the Alumni & Visitors Center, and the Alumni Office will strive to meet their needs, offer educational and social programs and provide opportunities to show their school pride,” she said. As director of the Wittenberg Fund, Demchak spearheaded the fund-raising effort that exceeded the fund’s $1.89 million goal in 1988-89, and she increased alumni participation by five percent. “As director of the Wittenberg Fund for the past year, Amy has brought unbridled enthusiasm and energy to the tasks assigned her, and I’m confident she will bring the same burst of creativity and focus to the Alumni relations position,” said Charles Dominick, vice president for institutional relations and advancement. “Amy will be spending much of her time in the first year expanding and strengthening our regional Alumni Clubs and organizations around the country. We hope to have active clubs and active volunteers in every area of major alumni concentration within the next two to three years,” Dominick said. After graduating from Wittenberg, Demchak earned her master’s degree in student personnel administration in higher education at Ball State University in 1993. She then served as an admission counselor at Ball State for one year and was promoted to the position of assistant director of admissions and orientation, which she held for two years. In Sept. 1996 Demchak moved to Grant-Riverside Methodist Hospital Foundation in Columbus where she served as assistant director of annual giving from September 1996 until accepting her annual fund position at Wittenberg in December 1997. While a student at Wittenberg, Demchak served as an admission tour guide, orientation advisor and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Her senior year, she was president of Panhellenic Council. A native of Whitefish Bay, Wis., Demchak was a sociology major and a Russian Area Studies minor at Wittenberg. Wittenberg Magazine P.O.
