Student Groups Assist War-Torn Cambodia
The American International Association (AIA) and the Hispanic Culture Club teamed up March 13 to host a second annual fashion show fundraiser, which benefited the Trailblazer Foundation, an American-based non-profit organization that assists in building sustainable rural infrastructures for Cambodian people.
First-generation Cambodian- American Sopheap Khun ’10 inspired
the organizations to help the war-torn nation of Cambodia following her study abroad there, where she learned that her own mother survived four years of the Khmer Rouge genocide. In 1999, the remaining elements of the Khmer Rouge surrendered, and political stability returned to the nation, but the recovery will take considerable time.
“We need to help give money to help them start what they need to start,” Khun said.
