More than 100 Wittenberg students
once again proved the university’s service commitment true by participating in spring break volunteer programs sponsored by the Office of Community Service, and numerous student and volunteer organizations.
Groups of students were deployed to various service sites to assist with diverse rebuilding projects, including in Hurricane-ravaged areas of New Orleans and Port Arthur, Texas. Other students headed to South Carolina, Texas and Mississippi to build houses, while some traveled to Florida to replant depleted sea grass in Pensacola’s coral reefs.
Students could also be found in Southern Appa lachia in Virginia working to minimize the detrimental effects of coal mining and mountain top removal. In addition, students continued their international service efforts with a trip to Nicaragua to build homes for impoverished families for a sixth straight year.
