Ruth Tracht Sayles, Wendell, NC, died Nov. 6, 1998. She taught school for
many years in Garfield Heights, OH. An avid gardener, she was active in Women’s
Club and Wendell Methodist Church. A son, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
survive.

Florence Mitchell Brown, Dublin, OH, died July 21, 1999. Survivors include
three daughters, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren
and a sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore W. Brown,
’28.
Ruth Jones Lewis, Urbana, OH, died Aug. 22, 1999. A retired principal from
Lawnview School, she was the first woman to receive the “Man of the
Year” award from the Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by a daughter,
seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Vivian Behl Senseman, formerly of Osborn and Fairborn, OH, died March 17,
1999 in Dayton, TN. She retired in 1970 as a French teacher from Fairborn
High School. An active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the
community, she is survived by two sons and a grandson.

Helen Saur Stacy, Youngstown, OH, died July 29, 1999. She was an elementary
school teacher in various school districts and assisted her husband, a Lutheran
pastor, in parishes throughout Ohio. She was also director of fund raising
for the American Red Cross for many years. She leaves two sons, David B. Stacy,
’62, ’65S, and John C. Stacy, ’53, ’58S, a daughter-in-law,
Hazel Tullos Stacy, ’57, two daughters, Miriam Stacy Whetstone, ’51,
and Lois Stacy Garlough, ’60, a son-in-law, Richard A. Garlough, ’60,
nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, and
a sister. Her husband, Curtis B.A. Stacy, ’23, ’26S, preceded
her in death.

C. Rhyne Little, Charlotte, NC, died April 12, 1999. He served as post master
of the Southside Post Office and worked with the Rike Roofing Co. for 40 years
until his retirement. A life-long member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, he was
awarded the Silver Beaver award for his work with the Boy Scouts of America.
Surviving are three sons, four grandchildren, a great-grandson and two brothers.
He was preceded in death by a cousin, Evangeline Little Rasor, ’28.
William R. Miller, Newport Beach, CA, died Dec. 16, 1998. He served as president
of the Modern Packaging Association and the Western Packaging Association
and as western representative to the National Flexible Packaging Association.
His wife, a daughter, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Theo H. Zimmerman, Rockville, MD, died April 18, 1998. Before his retirement,
he was a designer with Singer Simulation. His wife, a daughter, a son and
three grandchildren survive.

Patricia Fitzgerald Haberkern, formerly of St. Louis, MO, died Sept. 5, 1999,
in Jacksonville, FL. Before her retirement, she was employed by Lammert’s
Furniture Co. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart
Society, she is survived by two daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren, two brothers and a sister.

William A. Clauss, Springfield, OH, died Sept. 19, 1999. He taught chemistry
and health and coached track at Springfield South High School until his retirement
in 1969. He was inducted into the Ohio Track Coaches Hall of Fame and the
South High School Athletic Hall of Fame. A member of several fraternal organizations,
he is survived by his wife, two children, two step-grandchildren, five grandchildren,
six step-grandchild dren, four great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren
and two brothers.
Marie Plunkett Deeter, Cincinnati, OH, died April 15, 1999. Survivors include
her husband, a daughter, a son, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren
and two sisters.

Harold D. Bair, Prescott, AZ, died May 25, 1999. Before his retirement, he
was education director with National Cash Register Co., Dayton, OH. He is
survived by his wife, Ruth Thomas Bair, ’41, four children, cousins,
Alvin E. Bell Jr., ’48, and Lois Bell Cole, ’42, and a nephew,
Thomas G. Bair, ’72. He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight
P. Bair, ’09, ’12S, a brother, George W. Bair, ’40, and
a sister, Mary E. Bair, ’35.

William F. Sykes, formerly of Ogden Dunes, IN, and recently from Cassopolis,
MI, and Sarasota, FL, died Sept. 23, 1999. He was president of Monarch Oil
and Supply Co. until his retirement in 1980. A member and founder of Ogden
Dunes Presbyterian Church, he was active in many organizations including the
Civil Air Patrol and as a 32nd degree Mason. Survivors include his wife, two
daughters, Sally Sykes Barclay, ’64, and Susan Sykes Moreno, ’68,
four grandchildren, a sister and a cousin.

Jane Oliver Taylor, Bay Village, OH, died Sept. 10, 1999. She taught third
grade with the North Olmsted (OH) School District and was an active volunteer
in her community. Surviving are her husband, Lloyd E. Taylor, ’41, three
sons, eight grandchildren, a great-grandchild and a brother.

Elizabeth Killen Marousek, Redondo Beach, CA, died Oct. 11, 1998. She retired
in 1986 after 15 years as principal at Riviera Hall of the Lutheran Church
of the Resurrection. The school library was dedicated to her. Surviving are
her husband, Donald E. Marousek, ’42, two daughters, a son and six grandchildren.

Jayne Hires Prescott, formerly of Toledo, OH, died June 9, 1999, in Columbus,
OH. She was an elementary teacher for the Youngstown and Canfield Schools.
An active member of Poland Presbyterian Church, she is survived by a son and
daughter-in-law, David H., ’77, and Nancy Fumich Prescott, ’77,
and three grandchildren. Her husband, David W. Prescott, ’41, preceded
her in death.
Robert M. Todd, Cincinnati, OH, died Sept. 11, 1998. After his retirement
as director of quality control with The Drackett Co., he served as a travel
agent escorting groups to Europe and Hawaii. Surviving are his wife, a daughter,
a son, two grandchildren and two brothers.

Benedict V. Palmer-Ball, Louisville, KY, died Jan. 4, 1998. Before his retirement,
he was production manager with Palmer Products Corp. Survivors include his
wife, two children, two grandchildren, three brothers, including Lawrence
B. Palmer-Ball, ’40, Marion H. Palmer-Ball, ’42, and a sister,
Gertrude Palmer-Ball Booker, ’42. A brother, Nicholas B. Palmer-Ball,
’41, and a sister, Virginia Palmer-Ball Bennett, ’42, preceded
him in death.

Jack C. Lewis, Dayton, OH, died June 28, 1999. He was a civilian in the avionics
laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base for 45 years as a physicist
and a photographic scientist in research development and reconnaissance, retiring
in 1994. A member of the Belmont United Methodist Church for 20 years, he
is survived by his wife, two sons, two step-children, two grandchildren and
a brother.
Betty Teach Seaman, Springfield, OH, died Sept. 22, 1999. She was an office
manager for 25 years with various Chevrolet dealerships in the area. A lifetime
member of Central United Methodist Church, she is survived by a sister, three
cousins, including Gretchen Bryant Sheppard, ’33, and three nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, James H. Seaman, ’55, an aunt,
Rose M. Trautwein, ’08, and an uncle, William J. Trautwein, ’21.

M. John Manos, Chicago, IL, died Nov. 29, 1998. A. U.S. Army Air Force veteran
of World War II, he received the Bronze Star, the Presidential Unit Citation,
the Group and Wing Theater Award, Air Medal and Four Clusters. He established
his own architectural firm in 1956, designing more than 300 homes and commercial
buildings. Most recently, he was an architect-engineer with the U.S. Postal
Service. Surviving are his wife, three sons, a daughter, three granddaughters
and a cousin, Thedora Anas Rozdilsky, ’65.

Conrad C. Mattern, Tallmadge, OH, died Aug. 4, 1999. Retiring in 1987 from
Dun & Bradstreet after 30 years of service, he worked with SGD Sporting
Goods. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and an active member of
the community. His wife, a daughter, Marissa Mattern Frick, ’89, a son,
Kurt C. Mattern, ’93, a grandson and a brother, Thomas G. Mattern, ’60,
survive.
Jack S. Potts, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, died Aug. 15, 1999. During World War II,
he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired from Rite Aid after 35
years as a pharmacist. A member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, he
is survived by three sons, eight grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and
a brother.

Sylvia Wright James, Port Angeles, WA, died Oct. 20, 1996. She was a teacher,
having worked 12 years in Ohio and 24 years in Washington, before being named
Washington State Home Economics Teacher of the Year in 1975, the year of her
retirement. A member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and numerous professional
associations and philanthropic organizations, she is survived by her husband,
a son, a daughter and three grandchildren.

Hugh F. “Jerry” Lecky, Durham, NC, died June 8, 1999. He was a
retired U.S. Navy chaplain, who most recently served as pastor of Messiah
Lutheran Church. His wife, two sons, a daughter, 11 grandchildren and a brother
survive.

Ralph R. Furguson, Oakwood, OH, died Nov. 27, 1998. He retired as an English
teacher from the Oakwood School System in 1997. Several cousins survive.
William P. VanBuren, Bradenton, FL, died April 7, 1999. He served with the
U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from American Cyanamid after 22
years. A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, he is survived by his wife, Barbara
Kresker VanBuren, ’60, a daughter, Karen VanBuren Baren, ’89,
a son, five grandchildren and a brother.

Phillip B. Johnson, South Vienna, OH, died Aug. 3, 1999. A member of St. John’s
Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was the founder and owner of Johnson’s
Lamp Shop and The Olde Curiosity Shoppe, Waynesville, OH. He was a leading
expert on authentic restoration of antique lighting. His wife, Denna Dennick
Johnson, ’82, two sons, four grandchildren and his mother survive. An
aunt, Ruth E. Fehr, ’52, predeceased him.
