Editor's Note: The following was sent to the Office of Alumni Relations
in response to the alumni couple Valentine's Day card. Also, in response to
alumni feedback, Wittenberg Magazine will now be including Greek affiliations
in its obituaries.
My wife and I wish to thank you for the special valentine sent to us this past
week. Mary and I have been in love since we met at Wittenberg in 1936 —
64 years is a very short time.
On another topic, the members of our generation were very proud of our sororities
and fraternities when we were in school. How great it would be if your “in
memoriam” would mention the connection.
Even the Dorm League was an important part of our college days. We had many
friends those days even when we were competing whether it be a sing, a stunt
night, grades or intramurals. I hope that when my obit is published, it states
that I was an ATO.
Speaking of ATO’s, I note that one of my brothers was unhappy with the
situation with the fraternity house.
Certainly no one is more disappointed with the loss of our fraternity on the
campus than I, but my wife and I were quite pleased with the wonderful job of
restoring the house to a condition that is far superior to what it was like
in the 1930s. I expect to see it flourish for another 80 years.
