Ruthann Buzzard Burton ’50 died Jan. 21, 2001. She
was 72.
An English major and
member of Delta Zeta sorority
while at Wittenberg, Burton
went on to earn her master’s
degree in library science from
Western Illinois University before
returning to work at the
now Thomas Library.
During her professional
career, Burton also worked at the
Library of Congress in Washington,
D.C., the Dayton Public
Library and the Western Illinois
University Memorial Library.
In
addition, she was considered a
specialist in cataloging and
devoted much of her time to the
Bookmobile Service in Dayton.
Born in Wheeling, W. Va.,
Burton eventually settled in
Macomb, Ill., where she founded
the town’s League of Women
Voters and served as the league’s
first president.
She was also active
in the Embroiderers’ Guild and
was a member of the Macomb
and the McDonough County
Genealogical Society. An avid
gardener, needle worker and
seamstress, Burton also had a
passion for genealogical research.
She is survived by her
husband, William, a son, a
daughter, a sister, Virginia
Buzzard Crowl ’54, and several
nieces and nephews, including
Diane E. Crowl ’78, Nancy
Crowl Wetterstrom ’79 and
Julia M. Crowl ’82.
