The following letter was sent to the
Office of Alumni Relations in response
to the Valentine’s Day card
sent to Wittenberg couples.
How delightful to receive
a Valentine greeting from
Wittenberg.
On March 6th we
were married 61 years.
We are in reasonably good
health and are active in our
church and community. We
have raised two super girls and
have a wonderful 11-year-old
grandson who has brought
much joy into our lives.
We have traveled extensively
and have many happy
memories of those years. We
met in Dr. Bloomhardt’s Ancient
History class and kept in
touch with him until his death
and then his wife would write
us.
We had a Model A Ford
with a rumble seat, and Dr.
Bloomhardt often rode in the
rumble seat in the good weather
as we drove him home. He was
a good sport and a friend. Prof.
K.G.
Lind was also our friend,
and he and his wife had us for
dinners, which was much appreciated.
Mr. Glunz owned a typesetting
company and was able
to retire at age 50, which gave
us ample time for our travels.
This was in Cleveland, Ohio.
We have now lived in N.C. for
20 years — a small town of 700
people.
We have recently gotten
our second traffic light, and we
don’t like it a bit. It is a wonderful
place to live, pretty at the foot
of the Blue Ridge Mountains,
friendly and great weather.
One of the funny things I
remember is being campused for
letting Fred give me a pecking
kiss in broad daylight on the
front porch of Ferncliff. Dean
Immell was watching!
We have been back for reunions
and to show our girls
where we met. Of course we
think Wittenberg is the best and
mention it frequently — 61
years because of meeting there.
