1998. A member of Kappa Delta
sorority, she was associated with
several school systems before
retiring in 1972 from the
Williams Valley Schools as a

he was a guidance counselor at

the board of investors. Surviving

4, 2001 in Savoy, IL. A former
librarian at the Buffalo Public
Library, she was a member of

where she served as organist for

Amy Haeseler Talbott, formerly
of the Dayton and
Vandalia, Ohio area, died April
24, 2001 in Houston, TX. She
was a nurse. A son and a sister

Churubusco, IN, died Oct. 26,
1999. A former teacher at
Mentone, Silver Lake, Wolf
Lake and Woodburn, she retired
in 1976 after 19 years as the
Whitley County extension home
economics agent with the U.S.
Department of Agriculture. She
was a member of Grace Lutheran
Church and Phi Mu sorority.
Surviving are two sisters and
three nephews.

OH, died May 24, 2001.
During World War II, he served
with the U.S. Navy. A longtime
realtor and owner of Outboard
Motor Sales and Service, he was
a member of Phi Kappa Psi
fraternity. His survivors include

grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
Wilfred R. Grosser, Beach
Haven, NJ, died Jan. 1, 2001. A
member of Pi Kappa Alpha
fraternity, he taught at Brooklyn
Poly-Tech and designed ships at
the Brooklyn Ship Building
Yard during World War II. He
was a licensed professional
engineer who served as an
international technical service
manager and aviation product
manager with Mobil Oil Corp.,
New York, NY, for 31 years
until his retirement in 1974.
Survivors include a son, two
daughters, eight grandchildren,

Mildred L. Recknagel, Springfield,
OH, died June 17, 2001.
During World War II, she
served as a captain with the
Women’s Air Corps as inspector
general at Fort Des Moines, IA.
She was dean of women and
director of health and physical
education for women at
Jamestown (ND) College and
then personnel director at the
Medical College of Virginia
Hospital, Richmond, VA. A
member of Kappa Delta sorority,
she is survived by two
brothers, two nieces and a
nephew.
Paul W. Runge, Richmond,
IN, died July 6, 2000. A
member of Alpha Tau Omega
fraternity, he served as a lieutenant
colonel with the U.S. Army
Medical Corps Reserve during
World War II. He practiced
internal medicine until his
retirement in 1984. Following
his retirement, he volunteered
with the Wayne County Health
Clinic. The first recipient of the
Paul S. Rhoads Humanitarian
Award, he was a member of
numerous medical associations
and First Friends Meeting.
Survivors include his wife, a son,
three daughters and six grandchildren.

teacher, she was named Mother
of the Year in 1955 by the
Columbus (OH) Citizen for her

office of county prosecutor in
1960. He served as an acting
judge in Van Wert Municipal
Court and was the solicitor for
the villages of Convoy and Ohio
City, (OH). An active member
of his community, he is survived

IL, died Sept. 8, 2000. During
World War II, he served as a
master sergeant with the U.S.
Army. He headed the purchasing
department at American
Chicle Co. and was an active
member of St. Mark Lutheran
Church and his community. A

fraternity, he is survived by two

IN, died May 3, 2001. A Korean
War veteran, he was a member
of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity
and Trinity English Lutheran
Church. He served as a representative
for the Indiana Masonic
Home Foundation, president of
Greenlawn Memorial Park and
as a founder of the Diehm
Museum. An active member of
his community, he was a 33rd
degree Mason, serving as grand
master of Indiana for many
years. He is survived by his wife,
two daughters, a sister, Marian
Miller Rhodes ’44, and a
brother. A brother-in-law, Ralph
J. Rhodes ’44, preceded him in

Patricia Swartz Whyte, San
Angelo, TX, died March 19,
2000. She was a member of

teacher for 28 years, she retired

2001. A member of Alpha Tau
Omega fraternity, he was a
former professional football player
with the Cleveland Browns and
Detroit Lions. He was inducted
into the Ohio State All-Century
Football Team and the Ohio
State Hall of Fame. He served in
various capacities with school
systems in Springfield, Sidney,
Mt. Vernon, North Union, OH,
and Prescott, AZ, and as dean of
men at Urbana College. An
active member of his community,
Jan. 20, 2001 was proclaimed“Ollie Cline Day” in
Fredricktown, OH. Surviving
are his wife, three sons and three
grandchildren, including Shaun
T. Cline 2001.

2001. She was a founder of the
K.K. Tool Co. and a member of
St. Teresa Catholic Church.

Suzanne Curtis Armentrout,

2001. She was retired from the
State of Ohio, Bureau of

years service. She was an active

a professor emeritus of education
at Hope College, Holland,
MI, retiring in 1996. He was the
recipient of the Outstanding
Professor Educator Award in

During World War II, he served
with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a teacher and elementary
school principal in Delphos and
Urbana for 39 years, retiring in
1986. He was a member of
Urbana United Methodist

fraternal organizations. Survivors
include his wife, a daughter,

Jean O’Neal Thomas, Springfield,
OH, died June 29, 2001.
A registered nurse, she taught at
Springfield South High School,
Clark State Community College,
Sinclair College and Springfield
Community Hospital
School of Nursing. Five sons, six

Walter Goldstein, Enon, OH,
died June 16, 2001. During
World War II and the Korean
War, he served with the U.S. Air
Force. He retired in 1961 after
32 years, attaining the rank of
lieutenant colonel. He was a
member of the Panama Masonic
Lodge and the Officer’s Club.
Survivors include his wife, two
daughters, four grandchildren
and a sister.

Joel S.W. Dill, Evansville, IN,
died Feb. 26, 2001. A former
teacher and coach, he was an
educational psychologist who
owned and operated the Educational
Enrichment Center. He
had been inducted into the
Capital University Sports Hall
of Fame and was a member of
the American Psychological Association.
His wife, a daughter, a
son, two grandsons and a
brother survive.
Margaret Post Ice, Marion,
OH, died Feb. 10, 2001. Before
her retirement, she was a math/
reading teacher with the Elgin
Local Schools, New
Bloomington, OH. Her survivors
include a daughter, a son, a

John F. Blanche Jr., Fallbrook,
CA, died April 7, 2001. During
the 21 years he served with the
U.S. Marine Corps as a staff
judge advocate general and
military judge, he received a
number of distinguished military
awards. At the time of his
death, he was an assistant district
council for the Immigration and
Naturalization Service, El
Centro, CA. A member of Alpha
Tau Omega fraternity, he is
survived by his wife, Rebecca

OH, died May 3, 2001. A
dedicated member of New
North Street A.M.E. Church,
she was one of the first black
beauticians in the city of
Springfield. She helped to raise
many children in her home. A
host of nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends survive.
