Ohio State honors alumnus, dedicates orthodontic center
In recognition
of the professional
contributions of the
late Dr. Dale
Brookins Wade ’62
and his father, Robert,
to the field of
orthodontics, The
Ohio State University
dedicated the Wade Orthodontic
Education Center.
More than 350 orthodontists
were influenced by
Dale and his father during
their combined 75 years of
teaching at OSU. Until Dale’s
untimely death in 1998, there
had never been a graduate of
OSU’s orthodontic program
who had not been taught by a
Wade.
Housed in the College of
Dentistry on the main campus
of OSU in Columbus, the center
was conceived and planned
by the Orthodontic Alumni
Foundation and features a library/
reading room, a 50-person
conference space with
state-of-the-art media capability,
a catering kitchen and reception
desk.
A dedicatory
wall highlights portraits of
Dale and Robert Wade.
For his distinguished service
to the specialty of orthodontics,
Dale Wade also received
numerous awards posthumously,
including the James
E. Brophy Distinguished Service
Award and the
Albert H. Ketchum
Memorial Award, the
two highest honors
in orthodontics, and
the Ohio Dental
Association’s Achievement
Award.
His
wife, Jan Schwiebert
Wade ’62, accepted the
awards.
During his career, Dale
Wade served as chair of the
Foundation for Orthodontic
Research, and as a past president
of The American Board
of Orthodontics, the Great
Lakes Association of Orthodontics,
the OSU Orthodontic
Alumni Foundation and
the Columbus Dental Society.
In addition, Wade served on
the editorial board of the
American Journal of Orthodontics
and Dentofacial Orthopedics,
and was a Fellow of the
International College of Dentists,
the Pierre Fauchard Academy
and the American College
of Dentists.
Earlier this year, the first
Dale B. Wade Award for Clinical
Excellence was awarded
during the opening ceremonies
of the American Association
of Orthodontics. The
award will be given annually
to the candidate who achieves
excellence during the Phase III
Clinical Exam.
