Students create banner in memory of Sept. 11 victims
Between 30 and 40 students came together to create a 33-foot-long canvas banner in honor of the World Trade Center victims this fall.
Currently hanging from the third-floor banister in the Hollenbeck Hall atrium, the banner resembles a tower, especially when viewed from the bottom looking up. At the base sits a notebook where students, faculty and staff have written their names and any thoughts or feelings the banner has provoked.
“We hung it there not only to honor those who have been lost, but also to remind everyone of how real this problem still is,” explained Katie Martin ’04, vice president of Students Taking Action Now Dammit (STAND), which assisted in the banner’s creation.
Already featured on WDTN TV Channel 2 and WHIO TV Channel 7 in Dayton, the banner recently made headlines in the Springfield News-Sun. The group is now thinking of sending it to the rescue workers in New York City.
