University increases tuition and fees for next academic year
Wittenberg’s tuition and fees will increase
4.8 percent for the 2002-03 school
year, following action by the board of directors.
The increase will cover costs for technology, upgrading space and to support
increased compensation for faculty
and staff.
The decision will increase annual tuition
from $22,680 to $23,760. Room
and board charges will also increase 5 percent.
Room charges will go from $2,984
to $3,134, and board charges will increase
from $2,792 for the year to $2,932.
Wittenberg has kept annual increases
well below the average tuition increase (for
the 2001-02 school year) of 7 percent for
public colleges and 5.5 percent for private
colleges, according to The College
Board. Wittenberg tuition increased four
percent for each of the past two years.
Darrell Kitchen, vice president for finance,
said Wittenberg will make every
effort to keep cost increases to a minimum
while ensuring the quality of a Wittenberg
education.
In addition, the university has increased
available financial assistance by 5
percent, from $22.5 million to $23.7 million.
Kitchen said it is important to match
rising costs with financial aid in order to
preserve the availability of a Wittenberg
education to a diverse population.
