FAITHful living: Alumna makes a home for families in need In Memorium 1956-present 56 Robert A. Freese Sr., Rochester, NY, died March 12, 2002. A member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, he was a sales manager with Cygnus Publishing Co. He is survived by two sons, including Robert A. Freese Jr. 79, a daughter and four grandchildren. Eugene L. Pierce, Columbus, OH, died July 4, 2002. A member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, he taught science and coached swimming at the Columbus Academy High School. He also coached the Buckeye Blue Dolphins Swim Team. Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Yinger Pierce 54, three sons, two daughters, including Cynthia Pierce Liefeld 76, a son-in-law, Paul A. Liefeld 75, six grandchildren, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William W. 54 and Gertrude Reininger Yinger 56. Preceding him in death were his grandfather, Walter C. Pierce 1890, an uncle, Irving L. Grant 04, and cousins, Alice Grant Layne 52 and C. Dwinell Grant 40. 60 Elmer G. Hinkle, Barberton, OH, died Oct. 8, 2001. He served as a captain with the U.S. Army. A retired superintendent of schools with the Tri Village Local Schools, he is survived by his wife, two daughters, three stepdaughters, a grandson, his mother, two sisters and a brother. 61 Glenna Eidemiller Bower, New Carlisle, OH, died March 7, 2002. She taught grade school and junior high math with the New Carlisle School System for 17 years. A member of Asbury United Methodist Church, she is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, four nieces and a nephew. 62 Margaret Deaton Grice, Valdese, NC, died March 14, 2002. A member of Kappa Delta sorority and Waldensian Presbyterian Church, she was a junior high school teacher in Greensboro, NC. A daughter survives. Her husband, John C. Grice 62, and an uncle, Hugo L. Dressler 13, predeceased her. 65 James P. Schucard, Mayfield Heights, OH, died May 17, 2002. A member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, he was a teacher and head football coach at Brush High School with the South Euclid-Lyndhurst City Schools. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, three stepsons, four grandchildren, his mother and a brother. 68 Jean Wallace Hrinko, Springfield, OH, died June 25, 2002. She taught the mentally retarded and hearing impaired in the Springfield City School system and was awarded a Jennings Scholarship for Outstanding Teaching. She is listed in Whos Who in America. A foster parent, she assisted in the operation of Hrinkos Christmas Tree Farm and was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church. A son and two grandsons survive. Her husband, Peter Hrinko 68, preceded her in death. Constance Roeth Smith, Piqua, OH, died April 2, 2001. A member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Sidney, OH, she owned Simple Beginnings - Elegant Endings. She is survived by her husband, three sons, a niece, Darci E. Doll 92, and a cousin, Carol Deeter Kill 60. 73 Douglas C. Glesser, Toledo, OH, died Sept. 10, 2001. He owned and operated the ABC Mailing Co. and was a tax preparer with H & R Block. Survivors include his father, a brother, a niece, a nephew, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. 74 Cheryl D. Welch, Yellow Springs, OH, died July 8, 2002. A former assistant dean of admissions at Antioch College, she most recently worked as the racial unity program director for American Friends Service Committee, Dayton, OH. She is survived by her husband, her parents, two sisters and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 76 Karin Young Hudspath, Glenmont, NY, died Jan. 15, 2002. A member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and Mt. Moriah Church, she was a former supervisor with Chemical Leaman Tank Lines, Albany, NY. She is survived by her husband, a son, a daughter, two stepsons, two grandchildren, her parents and a sister. 79 Elizabeth Bruce Ultes, Columbus, OH, died April 11, 2002. A retired art librarian, she was active with numerous civic organizations. Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Ultes Hoffman 59, a grandson, two great-granddaughters, a cousin, Lawrence W. Jackson 49, and his wife, Shirley Miller Jackson 57. Preceding her in death were her husband, William Ultes Jr. 31, and her mother, Helen Cummins Bruce 04. 81 Cynthia Babcock Lucia, Glenview, IL, died April 2, 2002. She was a legal assistant with Lord, Bissell, and Brook, Chicago, IL. Her husband, a son, a daughter, her mother and two brothers survive. 90 Deborah Merriman King, Columbus, OH, died May 13, 2002. She taught language arts and coached track at Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk, VA, and Blendon Middle School, Westerville, OH. She is survived by her husband, two sons, her parents, a grandmother, a brother and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
