New assistant director of alumni relations named

Evangeline “Vange” M. Heiliger has been named the assistant director of alumni relations effective Sept. 26.

Heiliger brings a range of experience to her new position. As the education program coordinator for the SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park in Dayton, Ohio, Heiliger coordinated all educational and volunteer programs, and increased the number of program offerings available to the public from 12 to 45.

In 2001, she served as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar in New Zealand, where she was also a graduate teaching assistant in the department of women’s studies at Victoria University. As the cultural ambassador, Heiliger presented a number of programs on the history of southwestern Ohio, and she organized beach cleanup service projects for more than 100 Rotarians and their family members from 30 different Rotary Clubs.

A graduate of Smith College, where she provided leadership and supervision of 35 students in a residence hall, and worked with faculty and alumni on programming efforts, Heiliger has family connections to Wittenberg. Her brothers, Chris ’04 and Rob Heiliger ’05 are current students, and her sister, Beth, graduated in 1997.

“Everyone I’ve met who has gone to Wittenberg is incredibly enthusiastic about his or her experience here,” Heiliger said. “I feel lucky that it’s now my job to help people remember why they like being a part of the Wittenberg community.”

“Vange will bring a fresh perspective to the alumni office,” added Pat Richmond Benne ’68, director of alumni relations.

“Her leadership, organizational skills and engaging personality will also be great assets to the alumni program.”

Heiliger earned her B.A. in women’s studies and the history of science from Smith College in 2000, and she completed graduate work with the highest honors in women’s studies from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand in 2001. headline
