Around Myers Hollow
University transforms Woodlawn Avenue into welcoming plaza
Construction of the new Woodlawn Avenue plaza area is currently underway
on campus. The new space, running from the corner of Ward Street to just
beyond the north side of the Benham-Pence Student Center, will include
a pedestrian walkway as well as a stage and sitting area for students
to relax and enjoy their surroundings.
Alumni award winners throughout Wittenberg’s history will be honored
with engraved bricks that will adorn the center of the walkway. Room will
also be left for names to be added in the future.
Two flag poles, a gift from the Class of 2002, will be placed on the south
end of the walkway along with the 2003 class gift of a Wittenberg “W,”
which will be placed in the center of the area and which can be viewed
from the air.
Woodlawn Avenue was blocked off in June of 2002 between the streets of
Ward and Cassilly to promote a more secure campus and a pleasant area
for students to gather.
Funding for this project came from a number of sources including Alpha
Delta Pi Sorority, which contributed in honor of its 150-anniversary year
in 2001.
The $350,000 project is expected to be completed by Aug. 1.
