Geologist Retires After 35 Years

Friends, colleagues and students filled Ness Family Auditorium to extend their thanks to Robert Morris, professor of geology, for his 35 years of dedicated service to Wittenberg. Morris, who taught courses in physical geology, geological science and paleontology, among others, took students on numerous field trips to Michigan, Missouri, Kentucky and Virginia, and co-taught Wittenberg’s Bahamas field research program for 12 years, retired in 2003.

“I’ve really enjoyed teaching here for the past 35 years, and I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to teach with many excellent colleagues, as well as make many friends among the faculty, staff and students throughout the years,” Morris said.

Throughout his tenure, Morris received grants from the National Science Foundation, the American Museum of Natural History and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and he was recently appointed a regional collaborator of the Archaeological Society of Ohio. A frequent contributor to the Ohio Archaeologist and widely published, Morris earned his B.A. from Duke University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. headline
