Apryl Walker ’01 has been named the new assistant director of the Wittenberg Fund, Charles Dominick, vice president for advancement announced.
Walker, who majored in economics at Wittenberg, previously served as a school and community resource volunteer with
the Peace Corps in the Republic of South Africa from 2001-2003. As a volunteer, Walker designed and facilitated professional development workshops on classroom
management, lesson planning and assessment for 26 primary school teachers. She also maintained a successful track record of proposal writing and budget management resulting in more than $2,500 in grants for grassroots projects. In addition, she worked collaboratively in leadership roles with fellow Peace Corps volunteers coordinating reading/math workshops for 170 teachers, and planning HIV/AIDS community awareness events.
While a student, Walker worked as an INROADS intern with Bank of America in Washington, D.C., and with Provident Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio. She also
studied abroad in Liverpool, England, during the Fall 1999 semester, and she was active on campus, serving as a Student Senate representative and an executive member of Concerned Black Students, among other activities.
“I’ve been fortunate to see some of the most amazing sites in the world, but the one thing I’ve truly learned is that there’s no place like home,” Walker said. “I am so excited to be back on campus, and I look forward to advancing the Wittenberg Fund.”
