Alumnus Honored for Philanthropic Efforts
Milton O. Thompson ’76, a member of the Wittenberg Board of Directors since 1998, received the 2004 Black Business and Philanthropy Award from the National Center for Black Philanthropy (NCFBP) Inc. The award honors African Americans who have uplifted the black community and the larger community with their generous acts. President and CEO of Grand Slam Companies, a sports and entertainment consulting firm in Indianapolis, Ind., Thompson has served as interim executive director for two Indianapolis organizations, Family Advocacy Center and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He also serves on the boards of the Indianapolis Indians, Central Indiana Community Foundation, The Indianapolis Foundation, Pike Performing Arts Center and the Indiana World Skating Academy, among others. In addition, Thompson is a member of the Board of Visitors at the Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, where he earned his law degree in 1979. A political science major at Wittenberg, 1998 Athletic Hall of Honor inductee and member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, Thompson said he is “humbled, yet grateful, by the National Center’s efforts to honor [him] with this special award,” adding that “passing along your talent and resources is a responsibility, not an option.”
