Student-Athletes and Staff Featured in Promotional Video for Life Skills Program
Wittenberg University Director of Athletics and Recreation Garnett Purnell and other members of the faculty, staff and students are prominently featured in a promotional video for the NCAA’s academic assistance program, CHAMPS/Life Skills.
The video includes interviews with Wittenberg staff members and student-athletes in and around the HPER Center.
The Wittenberg athletic department is in its first full year of participation in the CHAMPS/Life Skills program, joining more than 500 other institutions.
Wittenberg is breaking new ground with its involvement in CHAMPS/Life Skills as the first North Coast Athletic Conference institution and one of just 86 NCAA Division III schools to participate in the program.
The video will be used by the NCAA for special programming, with portions of it featured in future advertisements and promotional pieces.
The entire video will be sent to every NCAA institution participating in the CHAMPS/Life Skills program for promotional uses on their campuses as well.
Approximately 40 student-athletes are participating in the program during the 2004-05 school year at Wittenberg.
All of them will gain from the key components of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program, including community service, leadership and scholarship. Study tables sessions, with tutors on hand in several academic disciplines, will be offered on a weekly basis.
“This is a great program that will greatly enhance the student-athlete experience at Wittenberg University,” Purnell said.
“The CHAMPS/Life Skills program offers educational and leadership experiences that will do a great deal to build upon their collegiate experiences.”
