Mock Trial Team Excels in Competition
Out of the 66 participating teams, Wittenberg finished among the prestigious list of “Top Ten Outstanding Trial Teams” following two rounds of competition in a criminal kidnapping case. Team captain Eric Rey ’07 of Grosse Point Woods, Mich., above, received the Best Attorney award for his trial performance. The team’s success followed its first-place win at the two-round Invitational Tournament hosted by Wittenberg at the Clark County Municipal Courts Building and the Clark County Common Pleas Courthouse, Nov. 5, which attracted 120 students from eight colleges and universities. Started by Alumni Board member Johnny Pryor ’99, an assistant Clark County prosecutor and adjunct instructor in community education, the association provides a challenging and exciting opportunity for students to learn firsthand about the work of trial attorneys by preparing a court case. “Our team has the potential to compete at the national level,” said Pryor, who earned his J.D. from the Indiana School of Law, Bloomington, in 2002. Pryor competed on the trial competition team in Indiana for two years and was selected as a National Member of the Order of Barristers for his trial advocacy performance. Students competing in the most recent tournament along with Rey included Gregg Carter ’06, Kara Clunk ’08, Arthur Kraatz ‘07, Amanda Wiesehan ’07, Adam Stone ’05 and Carrie Winteregg ’06.
