A. Van Jordan received his M.F.A. from Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C. and is currently teaching there. He is also an assistant professor in the English department at the University of Texas. His first book, Rise, won the PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Award and was a selection of the Academy of American Poets book club. In 2004, Van received a Whiting Writers Award and the Gilbert-Chappelle Distinguished Poet Award. In 2005, he won a Pushcart Prize.
