Janet Hart Heinicke has returned from the University of Dar es Salaam where she presented guest lectures to faculty members and students in the department of visual and performing arts. She also conducted a workshop in Malaysian silk batik, an area she researched under a grant from the Iowa Arts Council. In Tanzania, Janet developed plans for a future workshop in the mountainous region where women are the chief income-producing members of a family. In addition, her water painting, Little Root Magnified has been accepted by Concordia University, Austin, Texas, for the 2006 exhibition “Arte Sagrado.” Janet lives in Indianola, Iowa.

Cornell Press announces the publication of Charles Darwin, Geologist by Sandra Swanson Herbert. The book is a major contribution to the study of the history of science and has garnered considerable praise by scholars in the field. Sandra, who lives in Washington, D.C., is a professor of history at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
Barbara Palmer Kraus, Rapid City, Mich., retired in January 2005, as a fourth-grade teacher with the Kalkaska Public Schools.

Barbara D. Hall of Wayne, N.J., collaborated with her brother to write Bokuru, published in June 2005. Several other books will follow. She is currently authoring A Stroke of Genius: One Man’s Victory over the Odds to Tell a Story, which tells of how she and Jon fortified their familial bond by working together toward his recovery from a brain stem stroke.

Jennette Bradley, Columbus, Ohio, is the treasurer of the state of Ohio. As a result of her leadership, the Ohio Treasury’s Operation Risk Management program received the prestigious national “Pinnacle Award” from the Association for Financial Professionals. She was rewarded with $10,000, which she donated to the American Red Cross to aid hurricane victims. Also in 2005, Jennette was selected by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to represent the United States in Cordoba, Spain, at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Conference on anti-semitism and other forms of intolerance and discrimination.
