John Marr '81 returned to his alma mater May 23 to begin his new duties as the secretary of the university and executive assistant to the president.
For the last 17 years, Marr has served in numerous leadership capacities at Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio, most recently as dean of the Career and Technical Programs Division. As dean, Marr provided senior-level management and leadership for the college's applied sciences academic division, directly supervised and/or approved all personnel-related actions, and prepared and controlled the division's annual budget of $23.4 million for the fiscal year 2006. In addition, Marr oversaw strategic planning and management of major division projects and activities, and advised the president and provost on key matters of college policy affecting students, faculty and staff.
A proven leader in community engagement, Marr has also regularly worked with business and industry leaders to develop mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborative projects. At the same time, Marr is a member of several boards and professional associations.
In his new capacity at Wittenberg, Marr will be responsible for not only advising the president on numerous issues, but also representing the office in public settings, leading key presidential initiatives and facilitating the university's strategic planning implementation process.
A psychology major at Wittenberg, Marr went on to earn his M.S. in business and industrial counseling from Wright State University.
