Students Help Inmates Discover Their Creative Voice
Although physically behind bars, female
inmates at the Clark County Jail have
discovered a newfound sense of freedom
thanks to three Wittenberg students
who are passing their light on to others.
As part of Wittenberg's community
service requirement , Arundati
Dandapani '07, Allison Helmuth '07
and Kathleen Soler '08 are teaching
the inmates creative writing. The three
love listening to the women's incredible
stories, so the opportunity to serve in this
capacity works harmoniously because the inmates want to share their stories, too.
"I like the sense of community that emerged from the writings," Dandapani said.
"It feels like a very honest experience every Saturday afternoon."
