Associate Professor of Mathematics William Higgins was awarded the
2007 Ohio Section Award for Distinguished College or University
Teaching from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Higgins
is the second professor in the mathemetics department to receive the award
following in the footsteps of Al Stickney, the 2001 recipient.
Candidates are typically nominated by their university, which compiles
letters of support from colleagues and students. Eligible candidates
must be Ohio Section MAA members and must have at least five years
of college-level teaching experience. As winner of the Ohio Section
award, Higgins also becomes eligible for a national MAA award, the
Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished College
or University Teaching, which is given to just three professors from
around the country.
