Thomas Kennedy, associate professor of
music and director of band, died June 15
at the age of 54 following a lengthy battle
with brain tumors.
Internationally known for his musical
publications, Kennedy appeared as a guest
conductor throughout the United States.
As a professor at Wittenberg from 1991
until his disability retirement in 2005,
Kennedy taught courses in conducting,
mu sic educ at ion, u nder st a nd i ng
music and f lute. He also conducted
the Wittenberg Symphonic Band and
Wittenberg Chamber Orchestra.
In addition, Kennedy conducted
the Springfield Youth Symphony, was
assistant conductor of the Springfield
Symphony, the conductor of the Miami
Valley Symphony Orchestra and flutist
in the eclectic trio TOFT.

houses, Kennedy received his bachelor's
in music education from India na
Universit y, his master's from The
Pennsylvania State University and his
doctorate from the University of Miami
in Coral Gables, Fla.
Throughout his illness, a lumni
frequently wrote, visited and offered
words of encouragement. A memorial
service will be held on campus this fall.
