MTV’s True Life To Feature Theatre Major
MTV’s award-winning True Life documentary series made Wittenberg’s its home for a few days this fall as it followed Jessica “Roxie” Patton ’08 around. Patton, a theatre major, wants to make the issue of body size acceptance more mainstream, and she hopes the MTV documentary titled “I’m Happy to be Fat” will further that goal.
“Even if someone is considered unhealthy or fat, they still have the right to be treated equally,” she recently told The Torch. Since its initial 1998 airing, “MTV’s True Life documentary series has told remarkable real-life stories of young people and the unusual subcultures they inhabit,” according to the MTV Web site.
“Whether documenting the lives of gay marriage activists, individuals dealing with obesity, or teens in high school – the True Life series tells its stories solely from the varied voices and points-of-view of its characters – putting the series in the unique position of reflecting the state of youth culture at any given moment.”
The episode featuring Patton, who also wants to start an awareness group on campus about body size acceptance, is expected to air early next year.
